Package: $79,905 - $88,200 per annum + 12% super + allowances (Grade 8 of the SMRC Salary System 2025-2026)

38 hour week

About the Role: 

  • Operate and maintain the Snowy Monaro Regional Council areas wastewater treatment plants in accordance with Environmental Licences for each plant,
  • Possess a gook knowledge of the operation, maintenance and monitoring of wastewater treatment (coagulation and flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, disinfection ad biological treatment systems, laboratory equipment, disinfection equipment, fluoridation dosing equipment),
  • Have a good knowledge of mathematical operations and calculations to indicate wastewater plant performance,
  • Understand Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and chemical hazards,
  • Have comprehensive communication skills (written and oral skills sufficient to obtain and notify others of technical information)
  • Operate in a range of sewerage operations, construction and maintenance works relevant to the Snowy Monaro Regional Council area wastewater operations section,
  • Ensure that the DPI Water, EPA and NSW Health Department Sewerage treatment and effluent discharge standards are met by efficiently carrying out operational, maintenance and testing procedures at the appropriate Sewerage Treatment Works in accordance with Council’s standards, timetable and quality objectives,
  • Promote information sharing and knowledge transfer to drive evidence-based decision-making, enhance capability and optimise capacity
  • Contribute to the performance of Council: demonstrate professional conduct, make the best use of knowledge, experience and skills and be accountable for own decisions and actions
  • Contribute to a safe workplace: comply with legislative and organisational requirements and be accountable for own decisions and actions

About You: 

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • DPI Water – Wastewater Operator Certificate 1
  •  Fluoridation Plant Training Chemical Dosing or equivalent,
  • Certificate of Part 1 - Wastewater Treatment Operations and Part 2 - Advanced Treatment for wastewater treatment
  • Certificate of Part 1 – Chemical Dosing Systems and Part 2 – Water Treatment Operations
  • Demonstrated ability to manage wastewater treatment plants effectively and efficiently
  • Basic Asbestos Handling Training,
  • Drivers Licence Class MR with experience in driving light trucks,
  • High Risk Ticket – operate a forklift,
  • Current National WH&S Construction Card
  • Experience in the supervision of others,
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision,
  • Demonstrated competence in the maintaining of wastewater-plants, reticulation systems and pumping stations (including the location and clearing chokes)
  • Ability to participate in the on-call roster for weekend and after hours work
  • Current Class C drivers licence.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Demonstrated experience in conducting sampling and laboratory testing
  • Fluoride Dosing Certificate
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in the Local Government context,
  • Current Traffic Controller Certificate (Blue Card),
  • Confined Spaces Accreditation,
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of Radio Telemetry (lap top computer and telemetry).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant safety practices and an understanding of Work Health & Safety Act 2011 No.10 and Regulation 2011 and associated Codes of Practice and Standards
  • Current First Aid Certificate
