About the Role:
- Carry out the day-to-day routine activities associated with Development Assessment Service and fully inform the Coordinator Development Assessment of any matter arising that needs to be reported to Council
- Undertake assessments of different types of development applications within the Local Government Area, ensuring that appropriate legislation, Council Policy and directions are followed and complied with
- Carry out routine enforcement work (including investigations) on planning matters for breaches of Acts or consents including the issuing of Notices, Orders and Penalty Infringement Notices where necessary in consultation with the Coordinator Development Assessment. Respond to verbal and written requests for advice from applicants and the public concerning development matters relevant to the role, including participation in daily counter enquiry and telephone enquiry roster
- Assess and determine Part 5 ‘activities’ undertaken by Council
- Prepare reports for, and attend the Council and Committee meetings as required
- Promptly and accurately register and record all planning related correspondence and documentation including emails into Council’s electronic Records Management System
- Ability to deal with information in a confidential manner
- Promote information sharing and knowledge transfer to drive evidence-based decision-making, enhance capability and optimise capacity
- Contribute to the performance of Council: demonstrate professional conduct, make the best use of knowledge, experience and skills and be accountable for own decisions and actions
- Contribute to a safe workplace: comply with legislative and organisational requirements and be accountable for own decisions and actions
About You:
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Degree qualification in Town Planning or a related discipline with demonstrated contemporary experience in a similar role; or substantial contemporary experience in a similar role to support contemporary knowledge
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Environmental Planning Assessment Act, Local Government Act and other relevant legislation
- Demonstrated experience in expertise in the assessment and determination of development applications
- High level of oral and written communication skills including community consultation, report writing and verbal presentation
- Proven ability to produce work within established time frames
- Proven ability to develop and maintain internal and external stakeholder relationships to achieve outcomes that contribute to the achievement of the organisation’s strategic goals
- Current Class C drivers’ licence.
Desirable criteria:
- Previous experience and demonstrated ability to manage appeals and participate in Land and Environment Court proceedings
- Completed training in Section 79BA bushfire assessments
- Working knowledge of the 10.7 certificates process
