Position Description: Geographic Information Systems Officer

About the Role:
- Contribute to administration and maintenance of Council’s Corporate GIS datasets,
- Coordinate maintenance of council property and addressing information in the CIS system,
- Provide GIS services for mapping, analysis and reporting as required by stakeholders,
- Contribute to administration and maintenance of property, asset and geographic information systems,
- Provide GIS specific training as and when required,
- Provide effective communication between GIS users and the ICT team to ensure needs of GIS users are met,
- Promote information sharing and knowledge transfer to drive evidence-based decision-making, enhance capability and optimise capacity
- Contribute to the performance of Council: demonstrate professional conduct, make the best use of knowledge, experience and skills and be accountable for own decisions and actions
- Contribute to a safe workplace: comply with legislative and organisational requirements and be accountable for own decisions and actions
About You:
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Geographic Information Systems, Spatial Science or a related discipline with demonstrated contemporary experience in a similar role
- Minimum 4 years’ technical experience in GIS spatial analysis, cartographic map production and maintenance of property/spatial/cadastral data
- Demonstrated expertise in at least one area relevant to applying spatial data and GIS to functions of local government i.e. planning and development, asset management or property and cadastral
- Good communication skills and experience liaising with a broad range of internal stakeholders and external customers
- Experience in and working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and corporate systems,
- Proven ability to develop and maintain internal and external stakeholder relationships to achieve outcomes that contribute to the achievement of the organisation’s strategic goals
- Current C class drivers’ licence.
Desirable criteria:
- Experience administering and maintaining spatial databases and geographic information systems
- A working knowledge of rating and subdivision processes including addressing and road naming
- A good working knowledge relevant to key functions of local government, i.e. planning and development, asset management, property and cadastral, environment i.e. vegetation
- Excellent time management skills
