Position Description: Assistant Technician

About the Role: 

  • Duty operations relief for the Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants, Reservoirs and pump stations
  • Maintain Records as required in both the electronic and paper environment
  • Able to read Water & Wastewater drawings and to update on drawings
  • Water & Wastewater quality testing & sampling
  • Reservoir inspections
  • Maintenance of Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants and Pump Stations within the Council area
  • To carry out work as required for the Water & Wastewater Department
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the Councils WHS policy in the workplace
  • Be available for on-call rosters and available to respond to emergency callouts when rostered
  • Be available to undertake work on weekends as rostered
  • Acquire, process and document water & wastewater data in electronic and hard copy format
  • Demonstrate a commitment to Customer Service
  • Liaise with the supervisor in meeting legislative requirements; and
  • Promote information sharing and knowledge transfer to drive evidence-based decision-making, enhance capability and optimise capacity
  • Contribute to the performance of Council: demonstrate professional conduct, make the best use of knowledge, experience and skills and be accountable for own decisions and actions
  • Contribute to a safe workplace: comply with legislative and organisational requirements and be accountable for own decisions and actions

About You: 

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Construction Induction White Card
  • Willing to complete certification in Water & Wastewater Treatment (Part 1 and Part 2) or equivalent
  • Willing to complete NSW Department of Health Fluoride Operators Certificate
  • High Pressure Water Jetting certification or willingness to complete certification
  • Appropriate relevant experience in a Water & Wastewater operations and maintenance
  • Proven ability to operate, competently, small plan including Lawnmowers, whipper snippers, sludge pumps and water snorter
  • Undertake confined spaces training courses including refresher courses
  • Physically fit to complete all aspects of the position
  • Ability to work and participate in a work team environment
  • Commitment to work health and safety
  • Ability and willingness to undertake training in water & wastewater operations as and when required
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain internal and external stakeholder relationships to achieve outcomes that contribute to the achievement of the organisation’s strategic goals
  • Willing to complete Working at Heights course
  • Current Class C drivers’ licence.

Desirable criteria:

  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of Radio telemetry (use of lap top computer and telemetry)
  • Ability to learn pipeline construction skills for the laying of water mains
  • Demonstrate analytical and problem-solving techniques
  • Traffic Control Certificate
  • Implement Traffic Control Plans Certificate
  • Certificate of Competence in Excavator Operation
  • Drivers Licence MR (Medium Rigid)
  • Ability to read Water & Wastewater drawings.
